Launch Control XL is the ultimate controller for Ableton Live. TheTwangmeister wroteAre you telling me that you think the Novation Launch Control won't work?No I'm not saying that! Just saying it will work different from devices with endless encoders.NOVATION LAUNCH CONTROL XL MIDI /USB CONTROLLER It's 14-bit and works like a charm (especially considering it's low price). I use a fully custom build map for my BCR2000. TheTwangmeister wroteI saw Johnny Geib put out a video mapping and using a Behringer BCR2000 and that looked like it worked ok, but that is an old discontinued product.Didn't know the BCR was discontinued. Hard to say without knowing what the C4 is sending out to Studio One (which you can see in Studio One's MIDI monitor). So there is probably no hope of a solution.Or the control is relative instead of absolute. This has to be a bug, but when I asked Presonus support they said they couldn't test it as they don't have a C4. When I turn one of the knobs the value jumps between 0 and 50. Well I could map the knobs but they will not work as continuous controllers. I knew that the displays on the C4 would not work but I thought at least I could map the knobs. TheTwangmeister wroteSo I tried adding the C4 as a generic Control Link device. So it should be possible to build a custom C4 surface based on the available Mackie surface files. The rotary knobs work fine in the MCU and the Extender, but I suppose that that is because Presonus bothered to add the required code which they didn't for the C4.But they did add code for other Mackie devices. TheTwangmeister wroteBelieve me I have tried getting the C4 to work in Studio One. Maybe the launch control have that feature, it's just a heads up that Studio One doesn't (unlike Ableton, Cubase, Reaper etc.). Unlike endless encoders that take over the currently selected value instantly (like the BCR) or devices that have a soft takeover themselves and start sending when they reach the current value. What do you mean by pickup/soft takeover for rotary knobs?Let's say the current VST value is at 20 while your external device's controller is at 60 (because it adjusted a previous VST value), the VST value will jump from 20 to 60 as soon as you turn it. Is this how it works?Īnyone using this controller in this way, I would be very grateful for your experience in this matter. So that whenever I use the Pro EQ I can also bring up that template on the Launch Control and when I look down at the knobs and see the yellow ones I know that I am controlling the Low Mid Frequncy band. I want to Control Link my plugins, then let's say for the Pro EQ set up a template with Gain, Frequency and Q knobs colour coded for each band. Is this feature only in Ableton? Here is what I want to do: From what I have read you can create presets with your own colour coding. The next best thing from what I can see is the colour coding of the knobs on the Launch Control. The C4 has scribble strips above the knobs telling you the parameter and value, this is a killer feature which no alternatives have. Can a user tell me if it will do what I want it to do? Here's what I want and why I like the look of this controller. Everything I read is about Ableton with a brief mention about HUI mode in ProTools, Logic and Cubase. But I have no idea whether it will do what I want it to do in Studio One. Nothing comes close to the C4 but the one I like the look of is the Launch Control XL. So I need to find an alternative controller for controlling plugins. WHY? Anyway that's a rant I am not having here. So imagine my dismay when I discover the C4 is not supported in Studio One. The C4 with it's 32 rotary knobs and displays is awesome, second to none in the controller world when it comes to controlling plugins, which is how I have used it for years in SONAR. I use a Mackie Control, two Extenders and a C4.
